The selection process is designed to assess a candidate’s intellectual abilities, physical fitness, and overall suitability for the role. It consists of multiple stages: a written examination, a physical standard test, a medical test, and an interview/personality test.

1. UPSC CAPF 2025 Selection Process Stages

Stage 1: Written Examination

The first stage of the CAPF selection process is the written exam. The written exam is divided into two papers:

• Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence
• Duration: 2 hours
• Total Marks: 250
• The paper consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) on subjects like General Mental Ability, General Science, Current Events, History of India, Geography, and Indian Politics.
• Paper II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension
• Duration: 3 hours
• Total Marks: 200
• This paper requires candidates to write an essay, answer comprehension questions, and provide solutions to various general studies-based questions.

Qualifying Criteria for Written Examination: Candidates must qualify both Paper I and Paper II to proceed to the next stage. Paper I is an objective test, whereas Paper II assesses writing and comprehension skills.

Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)

After qualifying the written examination, candidates are called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST). These tests are designed to assess the physical fitness of candidates, which is crucial for the demanding nature of CAPF duties.

• PET Events:
• Male Candidates: 100 meters race (16 seconds), 800 meters race (3 minutes 45 seconds), Long Jump (3.5 meters), High Jump (1.05 meters).
• Female Candidates: 100 meters race (18 seconds), 800 meters race (4 minutes 45 seconds), Long Jump (3 meters), High Jump (0.9 meters).
• PST: This test is used to measure the physical standards such as height, weight, and chest measurement (expansion). Candidates must meet the minimum required physical standards to continue.

Note: The PET/PST is a qualifying test, meaning only those who meet the physical standards can proceed to the next stages.

Stage 3: Medical Examination

Candidates who clear the PET/PST will undergo a thorough medical examination. The medical examination checks the overall health and physical fitness of candidates. The medical standards include:

• Visual standards (with or without corrective glasses)
• Hearing ability
• Fitness in terms of general health

Candidates must meet the required medical standards to be considered for the final selection.

Stage 4: Interview/Personality Test

The final stage of the CAPF selection process is the Interview or Personality Test. The interview is conducted by a panel of experts who evaluate the candidate’s mental aptitude, leadership qualities, decision-making skills, and overall personality.

The interview carries 150 marks. The aim is to assess the candidate's suitability for a position in the armed forces and determine their leadership and communication skills.

Final Merit List: The final selection of candidates is based on their performance in the written exam, PET/PST, medical examination, and interview. The final merit list is drawn based on the combined marks obtained in the written exam and the interview.
