MPSC - Prelims
Overview
The MPSC CSE Preliminary exam consists of two papers –
- Paper 1- General Studies -200 Marks
- Paper 2-Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)-200 Marks
- The Prelims consists of two papers of 200 marks each.
- Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).
- The duration of the exam is two hours.
- Paper-2 (CSAT) in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination is a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
- The question paper of Prelims will be bilingual. The question papers will be set in both Marathi and English. However, questions related to English Language Comprehension skills would be provided only in English.
- There is a negative marking of 1/4 th for every incorrect answer in both papers. The score obtained in the Prelims will not be added to the final score

MARKS: 200 marks
- History of India (specifically Maharashtra) and Indian National Movement.
- India, Maharashtra and world geography – Physical, Social, The economic geography of Maharashtra, India, and the World.
- General issues on Environmental Biodiversity, Ecology, and Climate Change.
- Polity and Governance (Maharashtra and India) – Constitution, Urban Governance, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issue, etc.
- Current events of state, national, and international importance.
- General Science
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Inclusion, Poverty, Social Sector Initiatives, Demographics, etc.
MARKS: 200 marks
- Comprehension
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision-making and problem-solving
- General mental ability
- Interpersonal skills, including communication skills
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level)
- Marathi and English language comprehension skills (Class X/XII level) Questions relating to this will be tested through passages from Marathi and the English language without providing cross translation thereof in the question paper
