Writing is important for getting a good score in the UPSC test, especially the Mains. No matter how much you know, it will be impossible to effectively impart that knowledge to the examiner if you are able to write your ideas down in an organized and straightforward way. Learning how to write well is essential to ace any exam, whether it be the essay, optional subjects, or general studies tests.
We at RIIM Academy we understand the value of ability to write in UPSC preparation. We'll walk you through some practical techniques in this blog to help you improve your writing and make sure your responses are not just understandable but also interesting and perceptive.
1. Read a lot to improve writing: Reading a lot is the best way to improve your writing, even if you're taking IAS preparations. The next time you read a newspaper or magazine, make sure to focus your attention on the written content style too. Reading more can help you subconsciously build good writing practices & benefit your own writing. So, the first step in improving your answer writing is to read more often.
2. Consistent Outline: The rough outline is a basic structure to help guide your writing. You should have an introduction, body and conclusion. Try to keep them as consistent as possible.
3. Keep it simple without using a lot of jargon: Keep your word choices simple when writing answers for the UPSC main exam. Declutter your answer by using fewer, but more impactful words. Don’t try and stuff your essay with unnecessary jargon; this will only bore readers. The essay will most likely be rejected by the examiner if it is written like someone who is trying to show off his knowledge.
4. Work on Writing Speed
Writing speed is essential for the UPSC exam, especially since you have limited time for each paper. Here are some tips to enhance your writing speed:
Timed Practice: As mentioned earlier, practice writing within a set time frame. This will not only help you manage time effectively but also build the habit of writing quickly without compromising quality.
